Paramahansa Yogananda and Pluralism 2023

Paramahansa Yogananda and Universality of religions
Yogananda's world mission was threefold.
To spread the advanced Kriya Yoga science to all mankind. How to know God.
This was mainly accomplished via His public talks and writings
and
especially the latest version of the Self-Realization Fellowship Lessons Course.

To show the universality of the basic truths that harmonize all religions.
His main effort in this regard was to write three major commentaries that
will represent a major advancement for most of the worlds religious persons.
This was revealed in the SRF publications of His great works/commentaries on the New Test Gospels, the Bhagavad Gita, and Khayyam's Rubaiyat.

To be a living example of divine love, wisdom, and purity to all.
There were many witnesses to Yogananda's divine healings, compassion, and wisdom
as He lived and traveled in America for about 30 years. His life was equal to that of any other prophet in world history in every noble way.

Quotes from the writings, talks, and recordings of Paramahansa Yogananda; © SRF Publishers LA USA "Truth is one…  Divine incarnations do not come to bring a new or exclusive religion, but to restore the One Religion of God-realization.  The great ones, like waves, all bathe in the same Eternal Sea… "

(in the “The Second Coming of Christ)" Paramahansa Yogananda
Said :
"They shall come from all parts of the world, thousands and thousands of them, just as you have, for Self-Realization is bringing the original Christianity of Christ and the original Yoga of India's Krishna so that all people of all religions can follow one highway to the Infinite." \Said Paramahansa Yogananda.
Comment at Self-Realization Fellowship annual convocation, c 1951, LA USA .
A Major part of Paramahansa Yogananda's world mission/dispensation was to clearly demonstrate/encourage/clarify the basic unity and harmony of the primary elements and purposes of all true world religions. This is the nature of pluralism - the main concept that alone brings peace and cooperation among all religious communities! It's opposite is "exclusivism", which is the main cause of stress, intolerance, and the violence between religions and cultures world wide.

These conflicts are mainly caused by
literary errors/losses occurring in the original teachings through time, and political manipulation of works by those in power, or by a false prophets pretending to have received their comments and ideas from some God. This is from the egos desire to look authentic – it fools so many people who desperately want someone with authority to trust and believe in.
Be careful whom you place your precious hearts trust!

One should examine all claims closely as there are many charlatans in the world of religion/politics. Especially test and examine those teachings that you were raised in! What is their moral standard!
This can be better understood with searching your history and your heart. Are today's common beliefs followed by your faith what those prophets originally intended or taught? Academia is seldom the best place to learn about comparative religion and true philosophy.  Better to do your own personal searching and the truth of all this will become clearer as you go beyond your earlier programming. As a seeker of truth you owe that much to your personal integrity. We all have the same challenge, from birth we were mostly misled led by the spiritually blind in every religion. We must awaken our minds.
This was the story of my own sadhana, when I was ready Yoganandaji introduced himself to me, and the rest is history. Many positive results eventually came since that amazing day of divine grace.
The promised results from regular practice will always come with persistence and loyalty.
The greatest book I ever read was the "Autobiography of a Yogi" by Paramahansa Yogananda
(the orange covered edition is best by far)

It was mainly India and the far east that has kept the truly ecumenical principal of global pluralism, tolerance, and the spiritual science of Kriya Yoga alive through countless millenniums. Such is the light giving nature of India's "Sanatana Dharma." This is what it takes to produce a Gandhi or a Paramahansa Yogananda.

Yoganandaji's particular emphasis above re the historical words of Jesus and Krishna are for specific reasons as follows.
In today's world of global communications, mobility, and sciences, those documents provide the clearest elements referencing the highest Yoga spiritual sciences. Which Yogananda has made transparent and available for the "man in the street." Which He has fully demonstrated in His extraordinary life. The value of any claims by any authority/prophet lies in all the results and examples of that life and statements. That becomes a living proof! If you don't know why you believe something, you are in a state of blind belief situation going nowhere. What does the record say?
This move away from the narrowness of dogma, academia, and the secrecy of ancient monastic traditions will restore real spirituality in the hearts of many true seekers of reality world wide. It will spark a healing revolution in the hearts of a humanity that is now experiencing an emptiness and psycho derangement from the pace and direction of today's world.
Paramahansa Yogananda's teachings via Self-Realization Fellowship are leading the way! Our first duty is to change ourselves!

from- Aims and ideals of Self-Realization Fellowship -
“To reveal the complete harmony and basic oneness of original Christianity as taught by JESUS CHRIST and original Yoga as taught by BHAGAVAN KRISHNA; and to show that these principles of truth are the common scientific foundation of all true religions."        Paramahansa Yogananda
“To point out the one divine highway to which all paths of true religious beliefs eventually lead: the highway of daily, scientific, devotional meditation on God.”

~excerpt from ‘Aims and Ideals’ set forth by Paramahansa Yogananda
Everything published these days immediately goes world wide, especially in the English language. So the quality of any new spiritual message/dispensation must become more sensitive, advanced, esoteric, and universal, and pluralistic. Ir must also appeal to our reason.

The average person is also far more educated and literate than in centuries past. Peoples of many widespread cultures/religions are living side by side all over the globe, and they are even more interested in what is true in religion and philosophy.

This is the "information age," with the literature/history of most ancient and modern scriptures easily available, along with clearer, verifiable records of many more recent true and false prophets, available to all. Do your own independent research for best results.

The essence of holy writs as historically recorded in the New Testament Gospels and the Bhagavad Gita of India are not only the purest and clearest statements of what is called "the perennial philosophy" (re A. Huxley c 1945). The life example and teachings of Jesus and Krishna are two of the most exalted examples of exemplary lives among the worlds Avatars. Extremely high on the human spiritual evolutionary consciousness scale! The message and the wisdom level are very similar and equal!
Before you can read those subtle messages and change your own life, you may have to do a lot of work on yourself! Just what are you really looking for, reinforcement of your emotionally based blind programming, or the truth that will demand serious changes in your behavior, attitudes, and your total way of understanding the world and consciousness?
Essentially, these 2 documents, at their esoteric level of interpretation are not only

the same direct teachings at the highest spiritual level of understanding and inspiration,  they were parts of great dispensations to cultures that were at a very high level of human civilization. Societies relatively free of tribalism. Without taking anything away from all other true spiritual paths which were suited to other cultures. Yogananda will make this all very clear to the seeker who studies His other teachings. Yogananda's legacy has cleared up a mountain of problems in the field of today's religions/spirituality.
The quality, sophistication, and purity of a spiritual dispensation is seldom rated solely by the historical time period in which it was introduced, but rather by the wisdom of its content and the character of its deliverer. Which will ideally appeal to the local culture of the prophetic messenger of that culture.

On a global scale therefore, it may be more advanced or less advanced than previous spiritual dispensations. One may ask - how does one assess the value and level of a particular spiritual message and its claims? Certainty is the maintainer of blindness.
In the King James Version of the Bible reads: Matthew 7:16

Answer! "Ye shall know them by their fruits.

Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?"
    ///////////
Such "prophets" and dispensations must also stand as true guides to remove ignorance and enhance mind awareness/expansion of consciousness for all sincere devotees who want to awaken from this dream world of relativity. This is the way to salvation. Jesus tells us that very few will ever find it! It may not happen after death.

This is the key to Self-Realization and world peace for the masses in today's world!
Dedicated unto; Christians, Muslims, Buddhists, Hebrews, Hindus, and all other Religionists,
In whom the Cosmic Heart is ever throbbing equally.
And unto; The multicolored lamps of various true teachings,
In which shines the same white flame of God.
And unto; All churches, mosques, Viharas, tabernacles, pagodas and Temples of the world,
Wherein the One Father dwells impartially in the fullness of his glory.

The Master said ," A new scripture is born," upon the completed dictation of these sacred commentaries of divine inspiration and wisdom.

The great question we are now faced with?

Great prophets have sometimes changed their mandates!
Even Jesus had to change his mandate!
Oh' so you all missed that one did you?

Although Yogananda's original mission was to deal mainly with  the Bible and the Gita, He instead expanded on that mission as such a large segment of humanity was attached to another prophet. He chose not to leave them out.

Why then did Yogananda not give a commentary on the Koran, Hadiths, or Sira, to share His spirituality advanced  teachings with the Muslim world?

He did use the key scriptures of other religious prophets to share their truths of esoteric spiritual wisdom.
This is a major deviation that may rightly or wrongly maybe perceived as a slight by those who play the victim card.
The truth is that He knew many years in advance that major cracks would appear in the claims of Muslim history and leadership, and what future problems using those scriptures may become problematic.

The fact being, that all the worlds teachings/dispensations were presented at specific levels suitable for the culture into which they were introduced. On a global scale, this does not necessarily mean that the latest teaching is more advanced than previous revelations!
In ancient times this was mostly true only on a local tribal level for a specific culture.
This changed only when followers became power hungry and became too ambitious.

If that culture was more primitive, nomadic, tribal, it would of course receive a less advanced teaching than previous dispensations given to more advanced cultures in a different geological location. For such a culture the first order would be to secure a firmer sociological structure often requiring many rules while maintaining the color of certain local elements. So, on a global scale there was not necessarily any "progressive revelation" going on globally by reason of historical timelines.

There are often false claims such as "this is God's final revelation to mankind, and there will never be another new religion or prophet sent to earth," said Mohammad in the seventh century in His final speech.
Or "the true gospel and priesthood has been restored for the world" said Joseph Smith.
The wise know that it is the "priesthoods" (and Mullahs etc) of religions that serve the lower levels of all religions - not the higher more advanced levels.
Time is the proof of all things in this world. " You will know them by their fruits" said JC. There have been a number of greater prophets and new religions since the seventh century. And many vain claims have turned to dust!

Many of these great prophets have been from India alone since the seventh century!

This is revealed/evidenced in Yogananda's spiritual classic "Autobiography of a Yogi," from SRF Publishers LA USA.

Apparently, even though Yogananda had no condemnation re certain other religious
writings, by simply not using them in His great world wide spiritual dispensation, and breaking with His own pattern of literary usage for commentary.
His actions made a clear statement on the truth of this whole subject of progressive revelations. Vive la difference!

The oft misunderstood concept of "progressive revelations" mostly applies only to the particular area / culture into which they were introduced.  It may only have been an
advanced timely teaching for that culture in that geographical area of the world.

The Science of Yoga which Yogananda brought to the West was a revival of the ancient spiritual wisdom of India and part of the Sanatana Dharma. A universal teaching that will enhance any religious tradition when properly applied without conflict.

Therefore Kriya Yoga may be a possible exception in today's advanced techno world, as with the increasing intermixing of the worlds cultures it is possible to introduce a religion that is globally more advanced, but not only because of the date of its delivery.

Content, quality, and living examples of truth are the determining factors of the greatness of a dispensation. Does it bring wisdom, harmony, and peace to the world, or is it just a plagiaristic rehashing of all the old ideas from the past?

If "you" think you have an opinion on this particular matter, there are a few things
you need to do before opposing my comments. First you must understand clearly what the Guru was doing and what changed in his presentations or mandate on certain subjects.

A beautiful ideal is one thing, yet the timing and practicality of promoting that ideal must sometimes by put on hold or be revised as further developments dictate.
Yogananda, like Jesus had to redirect his promotion of some very important ideals.

In this case of not using Islamic sources to share higher teachings with the Islamic world,
what kept Yogananda away from this situation? He claimed that his method of commenting on ancient holy writ was to actually time travel to the time and place where these prophets lived and taught, and ascertained their true meanings.

When we read his revelations, this claim becomes very believable. So, what did He see to warn Him away from Islamic writ? This was back in the last century. Since that time a lot of questions have arisen about the way in which these so called holy writs of Islam came about. And we now have learned a great deal about the geological records of the Middle East.
So our present day knowledge of these matters gives great credibility to the Masters conduct in this matter. He never got caught up in that hornets nest.

The problem most devotees experience is a form of cognitive dissonance, they become too attached to the old idea and are unable to see significance of the Gurus redirection.
Yes , even Avatars make changes in their mandates by wisdom of necessity.

Most of all, unless you have spent a few years serious study of Islam and its prophet, you will probably have little idea what you are talking about, or wat I am talking about for that matter. First take a few years to do this - then we can talk.
Remember that in most religions very few of its adherents know what it is all about, and even fewer study the global picture of history and scripture. That is the bigger picture.
The avoiding of commentary on the Koran has serious implications. Time and discovery
is verifying the Masters approach!

Of course it is still true that "the core of all true faiths can lead one to God Realization",
But how much of that history has also been "politicized" ?

You will clearly know why He did it this way when you do your own research!
Originality especially, with true inspiration is a great indicator of divine creativity!

There are also many other dubious aspects of the historical Koran that renders it unsuitable to have a comparative association or inclination with certain more advanced scriptures of other prophets (already mentioned by Yogananda). Alas, at its core, being a reflection of
"people of the book", it obviously contains the seeking of God at its core as Master says of all great faiths.

Here are the addresses of some videos that partially reveal why the Koran could
not be used in a pluralistic, spiritually advanced dispensation for the modern world; "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UUsk39rrONE"

Finally, n the King James Version of the Bible reads: Matthew 7:16
"Ye shall know them by their fruits.....JC
Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?"  ....end

Why do so many people ignore the serious simple wisdom
in these Biblical comments? They do not take time to read!

This is some of the wisdom that Jesus suggests as a way to test true souls;
Another aspect to Yogananda's comment above; "Truth is one…  Divine incarnations do not come to bring a new or exclusive religion, but to restore the One Religion of God-realization. "
Few persons in history claiming prophet hood tried more loudly and brutally
to create a new, most exclusive, intolerant religion than Mohammad. fp

If someone attempts to introduce a new spiritual dispensation and make any claims of superiority and exclusivism, or of being the "true church", or the only true church" it will have to stand the tests of time and comparison. We now know too much about such vain claims!  We now have too much info available at any moment to test such claims.
Remember, one who makes many claims may also have many schemes.

Examine and test all claims made by those who attract a lot of ego attention!
"There never was only One Way!
There never was only One holy Writ of truth.
There never was only One exclusive Prophet/Savior/Guru!".....      by PYislove

eg.  Krishna's date in the Holy Land [India] was circa 5500 BC [or earlier], yet spiritually, sociologically,  scientifically, and politically, Krishna's teaching is far more detailed and consciousness enhancing than recorded directives of  the Hebrew prophets of later dates which follow the timeline.
Not from any lack therein of the profound wisdom of life, but there are missing pieces of that ancient picture. Much of this may have been deliberate to a culture not yet ready to hear esoteric wisdom.
India's spiritual and civilizational heritage predates the Mediterranean areas perhaps by thousands of years. Vedic holy scriptures of the Sanatana Dharma also contain esoteric locked up wisdom. Some great seers of modern times have unlocked from them the worlds most advanced mathematics and psychophysical exercises for advanced human development.

Archaeological findings from the Mohenjo-Daro and Harrapan civilizations has uncovered an intact skeleton of a Yogi sitting in Lotus posture meditating, dated at 7,200 BC.
How many millennia before that date was the spiritual science of Yoga perfected?

After the Hebrews had practiced their religious traditions for a few millennia, only
then did Jeshua return from His long sojourn in India to give them the highest ways to live and worship Jehova. Yet, even then those in power rejected His revelation with the exception of a few. Brahman(That) is the name given to the nameless reality in the wisdom of the Sanatana Dharma (Hinduism).

Again, their history shows politics of the Hebrew priesthood generally rejected Christ's message and attempted to shut down his personal ministry.

Jesus and the Samaritan woman at the well is a very telling scripture; It speaks of a future when Jerusalem is now longer the centre of Gods universe. [It all happened 40 years later in 70 AD]

John 4:21
"Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, and now is,
when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father.
22 Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.
[remember; when Jesus returned to southern Judea after spending half of his life away, he told some people, "I have come for the salvation of the Jews",(this was his original mandate, and being fully rejected by those in power, He changed his mandate to baptize and save all believers that would recognize him as their Guru/savior.....
[He did not come to save the pagans, or Samaritans , or the Greeks, or atheists!
At that time the Hebrew arrogance of being some gods "chosen people" needed major correcting.] So he also said...........................................
23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth."

Yogananda concludes with this far reaching statement;
Paramahansa Yogananda said;

"We in Self-Realization Fellowship have not come to bring a new religion, or a new cult or new interpretation. We have come to teach practical methods, the exact technique of widening the channel of human consciousness, so that truth may flow in ceaselessly, endlessly, without obstructions of dogma or unproved beliefs. We seek to point out the path of concentration on a practical system of realization as well as words and personality of saints and prophets.
We teach step by step progress to individual personal realization and attainment of divinity."

What is a LIVING PROPHET ?

Who is a Living Prophet?
The living prophet is a Living Christ
Who is Paramahansa Yogananda?
Who is MahAvatar Babaji ?
Who is Lahiri Mahasaya ?

Firstly - a living prophet is usually NOT someone we see in this  world of relativity who is occupying a physical form like yourself. Those persons whom you imagine to be "living " may like yourself, be spiritually dead. Those who are "true Living Prophets" are not concerned about having physical bodies or living in this material dream world forever.
When the body's work is done they drop it, and after that we still see them working in and through the lives of serious devotees and truth seekers.
The "Living Prophet" is often seen by His sincere, loyal, devotees.
This "seeing" can be in visions or in physical form. The clear evidence that the true Guru is always with the attuned devotee is great and well documented. By the time one reaches
such experiences, ones mental state is far more clear than average and not usually subject to vain imaginings.
The mind has long ago been mastered by the devotee.
The Living Prophet is not necessarily someone, who in an institutions religious or political process is elected to some patriarchal high office, or sanctified as a saint. Now there are some cases where such  persons that are elected can be very advanced spiritually, but not always necessarily. This at times only proves that he/she has loyally served the organization and has kept out of trouble.
Certified does not always mean Qualified! Truly great leadership is a precious Gem.

The living prophet may [or may not be] someone who founds a new church or spiritual path. In English we could say that such a person is a small "p" prophet. Such a one may or may not be spiritually reborn- spiritually alive/established in cosmic consciousness or Christ consciousness..

The living prophet is not someone who, by his/her own bold claims, charisma,
or opportunism, has attracted a lot of attention and is in a living bodily form.
It is not the adored icon of millions of blind followers who have succumbed
to the hooks, lines, and sinkers of a great orator/writer or people mover.

Such followers/devotees have already been programmed to be fed the
on the popular beliefs of a particular culture or system.
Many can always find a great
following by simply preaching to the converted through a lot of books or public appearances. Telling masses what they want to hear. This can be quite and ego booster. That is why it is better to master the ego via meditation before attempting to "remove the speck from your brothers eye."jc

Beware; There are religious groups that are claiming that their church has the worlds only living prophets who speak not only for their church, but by some vain claim they say they have the authority to give some God's edicts to all mankind. This is a totally false claim!
They are not living prophets by any means - they just like to give themselves vainglorious titles. Beware of those who make claims that are totally unsubstantiated. I assure you that those claims have already been proven to be false!

The true Living Prophet is a Great One who has reached Union with
God/ the Reality of our existence. And is thus qualified to show others
the way out of these cycles of reincarnation, Awakening us from this dream of
the every day unreal world of relativity. Such persons are so very rare!

A real Living Prophet fulfills this scripture: John: 14:12
"Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the WORKS that I do he will do also; and GREATER WORKS than these he will do, because I go to My Father."And, "John 8:51 I tell you the truth, if anyone keeps my word, he will never see death."[of awareness]
Some scholars like to rationalize that He didn't really mean that literally. I would say to read this literally finds a great deal of support in the rest of scripture. Such as in ;" The disciple is not above his master: but every one that is perfect shall be as his master... Luke 6:40
This is part of the description of a genuine Living Prophet.

Don't rely on the clerical promises of a salvation on the other side, or the theological promise of a maybe resurrection in a realm unknown to us. Work now to resurrect yourself
from a matter bound slave into an unlimited and free soul. Seek that Reality which is God!
"A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush[future.]"

The true Living Prophet is one who through divine grace and great Personal effort effort over many lifetimes in this world,  has been able to overcome his/her endemic human blind
programming and mastered his consciousness and the natural world. This is one who has reached the pure state of Self-Realization. Such a person lives a pure life of disciplined inner bliss, and has a great deal of healing power and wisdom to share. Working in harmony with the divine plan for this world, such one appears free of the misdirections of ego, and is content with whatever he has. Such a one is a being of light. This great soul is also clearly described in the Bhagavad Gita.

The true Living Prophet stands out as a man/woman of truth
purity, and balanced wisdom, and does not display ambitions
of the ego and arrogance attempting to become a celebrity.
He - the Living Prophet - is a remarkable example of humanity's
future evolutionary prospects. He is secure in His unity with His
divine nature, and in all dealings in this world he is never desperate.
Because of His/Her mastery of the elements of this world, including
physical, psychological, and spiritual areas of life, the Living Master
can work equally well whether his/her body as we have come to
know it is dead or alive! Check your history.

Many masters such as Jesus the Christ, Paramahansa Yogananda,
 Krishna etc.,
are still clearly working with their devotees in this world.
The rest of us, until we experience the evolutionary state of
Samadhi/Nirvana/Salvation, are as it is written - are spiritually dead.
This is then also the stature of those whose ego seeks followers,
wealth, or celebrity status, without first achieving divine Self-Realization.

If the Guru is in a body it is nice for a while! Will you see Him much?
He/she may be a very busy person. Most devotees rarely
have the opportunity to spend much time with their Gurus.
What if He dies tomorrow? Nothing is guaranteed in all this.
The wisdom writings left behind by a Great Soul are more than
just words on paper, they are spiritually charged spiritualized
teachings of the divine law and inspiration.

Here one may want to ask - what about Guru Shishya/ Paramapara?
This long held belief of many past teachers is carried on in SRF/YSS
through the successive Self-Realized presidents of the organization.
This in certain ways, when one is advanced enough, takes
care of the need of lineage succession. And thus, the serious devotees
of Jesus and Krishna and Yogananda, Lahiri Mahasaya, continue to receive the
personal help, protection and assurance in their lives from these Living Prophets,
when they maintain the sacred spiritual link directly with the Master's work[SRF org].

The Master’s Living presence – Two true experiences

Very beautiful Story by Bramachari David (now known as Br.Jitananda)
Paramahansa Yogananda
Br. David told a story about how Brother Bhaktananda used to chant inwardly all day long, “I love you Master.” Then one day after about a year of chanting this, Master came over to Brother in the gardens at Encinitas and whispered sweetly, “I love you, too.” This story so impressed Br. David that he started using the mantra, “Guruji, I love you.” But he felt a little sad because he knew that Master, having left the body, could never respond to him in the same way he had with Brother Bhaktananda.
Time went by, and he persisted with this mantra wholeheartedly. Then after a visit with family in Australia, as he was waiting at the Sydney airport to catch his flight back to the U.S., he thought, “This is a good time to use my mantra”, and he began to chant inwardly. After some time he noticed a little girl coming toward him and the next thing he knew the youngster climbed up on the chair next to him, leaned over, and whispered in his ear, “I love you.” Br.David was quite charmed by this little girl and he replied to her, “I love you, too.” She told him her name was “Lizzy”. Just then Lizzy’s mother came to retrieve her, apologized to Brother for the bother, and escorted Lizzy back to their seats, some 50 yards away in the airport. But pretty soon Lizzy was back again, and once again she climbed up on the chair next to him, put her arms around his neck and whispered, “I love you, I love you, I love you!” Soon the mother came to reclaim Lizzy again, and repeatedly apologized for the trouble. But in a little while Lizzy was back again for the third time, hugging Br. David and saying over and over, “I love you, I love you, I love you!!”
Suddenly Br. David realized what was happening. He recalled the sadness he had felt in thinking he would never get a direct response from Master, and he realized that the guru was responding to his devotion through this little girl. God can work through many channels.~~~OM GURU DEVA~~~

******* USING THE GURUS PHOTOGRAPHS ******* by Br. Ramananda..
Brother R says that one of his favorite tools is using the guru’s photograph. On the eve of Master’s departure for the United States, Sri Yukteswar told him, “All those who come to you with faith, seeking God, will be helped. As you look at them, the spiritual current emanating from your eyes will enter into their brains and change their material habits, making them more God-conscious."There is a silent language that takes place between the guru’s eyes and yours.
One time during a ceremony, Brother said he saw many devotees coming before Master’s picture, pronaming to him with such devotion that it seemed as if Master himself was the lighting on the picture.
** Brother saw two beams of light coming out like headlights from Master’s eyes and there were fast-flowing tears coming from them. He turned to some other devotees and asked him what they were seeing, and they said they saw the same thing, too.
“Any devotee who ardently meditates on the picture or form of a true guru-preceptor or any other master becomes attuned to him, imbibing his qualities, and ultimately feels in that saint the presence of God.”
That’s why we use the photo of the guru. The guru is like a diving board, and when you are ready he pushes you off into the Ocean of Spirit. - Om Gurudeva !!!

The Guru Paramahansa Yogananda once said to a group of disciples;
“I never miss you all when I am away, because inwardly you are always with me now, and will be forevermore. Whether we are living here or pass through the portals of death, we shall always be together in God.”

What is Faith?
Faith is not blind belief, Blind belief is not Faith. Blind belief is simply blind belief !
Faith is; the power of creativity, intelligence, and love that changes things in real ways,
from personal self-Realization/self-transformation to ridding ourselves of failure
and disease, of ignorance and lack, of fear and doubt.
If there are no results, you are practicing blind belief, not faith. If your ideas of belief contradict all evidences of reason and sound research, then you may be involved in Blind belief. But as the scripture wisely says; "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." Hebrews 11:1 KJV
I will add to this again, that blind belief is the absence of evidence and results by incorrect ideas. Blind belief is an idea that is emotionally, not rationally held on to. Faith is an idea that stands the proper tests of reason and research. This is where intellectuals often get confused, Faith is the real thing, Belief can be true or false.
Even reason, without proper data, in a mind that has been programmed by society to see only the most limited aspects of a matter, is still caught up in blind belief. This is called "building a house on sand" - it won't stand up for long.

In The Bhagavad Gita Lord Krishna Says; Ch 5, V 17-26
Edition re "The Yoga of the Bhagavad Gita" by Paramahansa Yogananda

“He who perceives Me everywhere and beholds everything in Me never
looses sight of me, nor do I ever lose sight of him.” 6:30
"That Yogi stays forever in Me, who, anchored in divine Unity whatever
His mode of existence, realizes me as pervading all beings.”  6:31
"Their thoughts immersed in That (Spirit), their souls one with Spirit,
their beings purified from poisonous delusion by the antidote of Wisdom.
- such men reach the state of non-return."
Self-Realized sages behold with an equal eye a learned and humble Brahmin,
a cow an elephant, a dog, an outcast."
The relativities of existence (birth, death, pleasure and pain) have been overcome.
even here in this world, by those of fixed equal mindedness. Thereby are they
enthroned in spirit - verily, the taintless, the perfectly balanced spirit."
The knower of Spirit, abiding in the Supreme Being, with unswerving
discrimination, free from delusion, is thus neither jubilant at pleasant experiences,
nor downcast by unpleasant experiences. "20
Unattracted to the sensory world, the Yogi experiences the ever new joy inherent
in the Self. Engaged in divine union of the soul with Spirit, he attains bliss indestructible." 21
"With sins obliterated, doubts removed, senses subjugated, the rishis (sages), contributing to the welfare of mankind, attain emancipation in Spirit."25
"Renunciants who are desireless and wrathless, mind-controlled, and Self-Realized,
are completely free both in this world and in the beyond."26

The KJV Gospels where Jesus says;
"To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne." Rev. 3:21
"Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name." Rev 3:12

John 14:Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
 2. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
 3. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I amthere ye may be also.  4. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.”
 JOHN 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.  8. And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:  9. Of sin, because they believe not on me;

10. Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;

11. Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

14. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.”

Yogananda's promise to all SRF devotees...............
Devotees who are in tune with Him through this great work...........

"God has sent you to me, and I shall never fail you... "Even when I am gone my help will always be given to devotees all over the world, if they keep in tune. Never think for a moment that when I am physically absent from you all, I am not otherwise with you. I shall be just as deeply concerned for your spiritual welfare when I am no longer in the body as I am now. I shall always be watching over each one of you, and whenever a true devotee thinks of me in the silent depths of his soul, he will know that I am near."

Paramahansa Yogananda, quoted in the SRF calendar, August, 1993.

 In a letter to Rajarsi Janakananda from Yogananda, September 19, 1935;
" To be known by God is everything. Like Buddha who gave up everything,
live only for God, Self-Realization Fellowship, and Guru's work,
and you will attain everlastingness in heaven."

Swami Adi Sankara  circa 788- 820AD

“There are those pure souls who have attained peace and greatness. The bring good to mankind, like the coming of spring. They themselves have crossed the dreadful ocean of the world. Without any selfish motive, they help others to cross.”
“A Teacher[Guru/prophet] is one who is deeply versed in the scriptures, pure, free from lust, a perfect knower of Brahman, calm like the flame when its fuel is consumed, an ocean of the love that knows no ulterior motive, a friend to all good people who humbly entrust themselves to him.”

Autobiography of a Yogi [SRF editions only]
            Where Paramahansa Yogananda writes;
While Yogananda was meditating for hours at the holy Dakshineswar Temple
near Kolkata this was one of His great experiences in Yoga Samadhi;

"My instant petition to the divine mother was instantly acknowledged. First , a delightful cold wave descended over my back and under my feet, banishing all discomfort. Then to my amazement the temple became greatly magnified. Its large doors slowly opened, revealing the stone figure of the Goddess Kali. Gradually the statue changed into a living form , smilingly nodding in greeting, thrilling  me with joy indescribable  As if by a mystic syringe, the breath was withdrawn from my lungs; my body became still though not inert.
An ecstatic enlargement of consciousness followed. I could see clearly several miles over the Ganges River to my left. and beyond the temple to the Dakshineswar precincts. The walls of all buildings glimmered transparently; through them I observed people walking to and fro over the distant acres.

"though I was breathless and my body remained in a strangely quiet state, I was able to move
my hands and feet freely. For several minutes I experimented in opening and closing my eyes,
In either state I saw the distinctly the whole Dakshineswar panorama..............................."
[from page 183, Autobiography of a Yogi, (c) Self-Realization Fellowship Publishers LA USA.]
It was during this experience that Yogananda's prayer was answered that changed his sisters
marriage, and resulted in a major transformation in the life of his brother in law."
This is the power of a living master to effect change and experience life beyond the limits
of human sensory limits. This ability of the Living Prophet continues after the death of the body - thousands of witnesses have testified that after Paramahansa Yogananda's body death they have received a great deal of amazing help and healing from Him personally and indirectly.

the orange covered paper back edition of  Paramahansa Yogananda's
"Autobiography of a Yogi." [shown below]
Note; all other non - SRF 1946 editions are incomplete and out of date, including Kindle.

Read this complete edition for the real Yogananda!
The founder of SRF ordered this work so that we can all learn and grow to our greatest potential.
This is the book that really tells the world about Living Prophets (Some of the world's historical living Christs -those who still live eternally
.
It is this classic that destroys all those false"only One Way" claims.

If you can't make it through the whole book. or if you have read it
only once, you are not ready for the depth and value of this life enhancing message.
This is ok, as the world is full of the people at different stages of growth and various ideas
which meet the different needs of all seekers.
If this Holy SRF path is really for you - you will know it!
But what is in this classic is worth the effort of careful study and practice!
Yet! Amazing and inspiring as the Autobiography is, this is just the
beginning of your accelerated journey of Self-transformation to a better life.

Paramahansa Yoganandaji's Ways of Wisdom, Love and Grace.

This site is about the example and life lessons one can learn from the Revelations, life, and Inspired teachings of a modern day Saint/Yogi/manifestation and world class Teacher/Guru.
The founding of the Self-Realization Fellowship/Yogada Sat Sangha, and the legacy left by Paramahansa Yogananda are an advanced global spiritual dispensation needed by many in this 21st century and beyond. Thousands of years will pass before it even looks out of date.
Yogananda brings great emphasis on creating more harmony among the worlds religions and nations, bringing Peace & Brotherhood instead of war, and how to attain communion with Reality/God through Grace and Personal Effort.
This site will also deal with the great question of the need for a Guru of Self-Realization on the path of self-transformation.//////
SRF/YSS is not New Age, although it is similar to New Thought.
It is not a cult, it is a community of souls working towards spiritual freedom before death,

Self-Transformational growth and Self-Realization.
"It is not a branch or offshoot of any other major faith, It is not a creed or dogma" said Yogananda, " it is the science of the soul and Spirit," The Science of Kriya Yoga.
A non-sectarian society sharing  the essence of all great spiritual paths.
Self-Realization Fellowship does not seek to take anyone away from their faith,
or abrogate the essential teachings of true previous divine dispensations.
But it has come at this time, after centuries of misdirection of the masses,
to restore the original teachings of Jesus, Krishna, Sankara, and other Christs, and
show the essential truths underlying all great faiths as a common basis for world harmony.

You can start right where you now are and transform your understanding
and consciousness from external popular ideas to inner true belief and wisdom.
Without this major reversal of the direction of your attention and concentration,
there is no true spiritual experience or salvation, no matter what your faith is!

You must learn the art of switching your attention/awareness from the outer
world of relativity to the inner world or Reality - God.

I hope to share ideas with all open minded persons free of dark prejudices, attachments,
resentments, and competitive attitudes, the many blessing to be obtained from one of
the modern worlds greatest Self-transformational spiritual Masters/ life coaches.
I write here as a witness from the progress I have made in my
own life by listening to and working with a true Guru/Master, a Living Christ.
From when Yogananda first came into my life greater freedom and awareness
and many other blessings continually flow into it. Obedience to  a true Living
Guru, freeing one from sense slavery and increasing mastery of all aspects ones life
is the road to real freedom. Stay the way you are and you will never leave slavery!
The glowing history of so many divinely God Realized persons
who are in this YSS/SRF lineage,  and with the sincere practice of these
teachings are an unbroken testimony that is undeniable to honest seekers.
The evidence is completely in the results, are you humble enough to take many
years to learn about such results through study and practice?
Anything worthwhile is worth the effort! meditation + devotion is the way!
If not - this may not be for you!

This is a profound, demanding, and advanced spiritual, mystical path, based upon the science of Kriya Yoga.  It is a balanced path of love, austerity, and service with great rewards. It is not for those of shallow intellectual disposition, or for the undisciplined loafers, who egotistically never will change themselves. It is not appealing to person who seek to be missionaries or teachers long before they are ready. You can't save the world until you save yourself.  If you imagine in your small intellect you know more than these great ones/the living prophets, this path is clearly not for you..
It is not a path for those who are lazy, restless, and weak of will, or cynical.

Persons self enamored with their own overblown intellects are correct in thinking
a real God cannot be known by their prime intellectual method alone,
truth will be most often evasive. Those who have penetrated to the heart of
Reality/Brahman have done so by adding the powers of devotion and intuition
to their great intellects. It is not intellect alone that will break the barriers
of the worlds illusions, of your limited programming - but intellect plus intuition plus yoga sciences!
This is now a real intelligence which leads to true faith true realization of the Self.

Reason alone, working through an undisciplined mind that is still locked into the
cultural limitations of ones childhood programming is equally as blind as blind faith.
Half of our brain - the intellect works with reason, good but still just the
intellect rehashing its old patterns. Thus reasoning can be just a s flawed as blind faith.
Intellect is also the victim of limitations of wrong data and/or incompetent assessments. The missing ingredient is highly developed intuition. This is how the Great Ones found their way to Reality/Salvation and knew God before death. We all have the opportunity of accelerating our
evolution and permanently be free of forced reincarnation.
Intuition is from the other half of our brain and is most effectively developed
through Kriya Yoga meditation and spiritual devotion.
When these two faculties are developed and balanced then one is blessed with a very clear and insightful clear intelligence. Intuition and reason together can show one the way with the help of one who is already there. The Guru is in a class beyond expert and is indispensable to the totally serious seeker. Whereas a teacher or cleric is suitable for the average devotee.
A true savior -Guru- Spiritual master...One who has attained Yoga
[union with the One Reality] and knows God no longer depends upon a human body
to work with His/Her devotees. So he/she does not need a succession of gurus for parampara
to be validated.

In the 19th & 20th century, India, Sanatana Dharma, [yoga] produced a
number of great souls who are the equal of any savior to ever be
known in Human history. Yogananda and many other credible writers have
now brought this to the world's attention. Claims to the contrary are made by
fearful protective bound believers who cannot bear the competition. Who may
yet be steeped in the towers of intolerant exclusivism.
Why do we need to follow anyone at all? Without religion many can lead a life of
goodness. That does cover the level of leading a moral live. However in the
field of true religion morality is only the foundation - nothing more.
So until one is self-realized, we are as blind people wandering through
unproductive years full of the false promises of our ancestors.
In this relative world we are still only barely existing in another level of
dreaming. Relativity is not reality - it is relativity!
The Great Ones are Masters who have found the way to reality, they can
show us the way out of all of this false programming.
They know the best way out of this dream world of Relativity.
Do you still believe this world is real, or that it can meet all your needs?
Millions have found otherwise.

All endeavors are similar, if you want the best guidance and success
you must work with an expert, one who has already made it there and
back and knows the way...only such true Gurus can really help you in this
most difficult of all human quests.

Persons with self-exaggerated presumptions of their own status who have imagined that by a few short readings and brief periods of practice they think they have an clear understanding of Yogananda and the Self-Realization teachings and history are sadly mistaken. You don't!
Or persons who are under the influence of copy cat teachers and are not what they seem.
We see this all the time from detractors of Yogananda's work
who have somehow assumed, either with misunderstanding or
by other private agendas, that they know only the presumed faults of a
spiritual master whose stature they have not yet even begun to grasp.
Many of these detractors are still suffering from a deep
stress of cognitive dissonance.  Follow them NOT!

¿Qué es .... Autorrealización?
Paramahansa Yogananda nos dice que;
"Self-Realization es el conocimiento-en cuerpo, mente y alma, que somos uno con la omnipresencia de Dios, para que nosotros no tenemos que rezar para que venga a nosotros, que no somos más que cerca de él en todo momento, pero que la omnipresencia de Dios es nuestra omnipresencia, que somos sólo una parte tan importante de él ahora que nos volverá a ser .............. Todo lo que tenemos que hacer es mejorar nuestro conocimiento ".

      What is ....Self-Realization?
Paramahansa Yogananda tells us that;

"S
elf-Realization is the knowing-in body, mind and soul- that we are one with the omnipresence of God; that we do not have to pray that it come to us, that we are not merely near it at all times, but that God's omnipresence is our omnipresence ; that we are just as much a part of Him now as we ever will be. .............  All we have to do is improve our knowing."

What do you really want? Community comfort or the sure Path of finding Reality?
NOTES TO A
 SERIOUS SEEKER OF TRUTH

by PYislove   25 October 2012

I can appreciate that some of you have a longing of many questions to be answered. It is a sign that you sincerely would like answers to your dilemma/confusion.
My heart goes out to you - I have been there!

Before I was ever introduced to Paramahansa Yogananda and Self-Realization Fellowship I was studying the Bible, and only knew a little about Yoga, and nothing about biblical languages.
Yet, even then I saw that Reincarnation and Yoga are all through the bible - especially the Gospels.
But it was not until after I began to understand the intimacy and significance of the master/disciple relationship that I became aware that Jesus never implied that He was the only way to salvation for all nations and culture. A mind expanding pluralism that is now well supported by the availability of much the worlds great historical data and sacred writings the WWW has brought to our fingertips.

Moreover, just like our friend Ralph Waldo Emerson, once I found the Bhagavad Gita
I knew I was on the right track. It was a beginning on the path to true salvation. Once Emerson read that remarkable holy book and He used it as his personal bible for the rest of his life. [read what he has said about it - it's amazing].
Buddha also was a Yogi through and through. As was Jesus and others too.
If you can't see these things in the bible, it is because of your cultural programming.
They also had teachers and Gurus. Make no mistake, these are two very different types of mentors.

It can be somewhat disillusioning when one runs into a mystical advanced path like Kriya Yoga before one is ready and is still drifting in the wind looking for everything else.
Those "who have grasped the import" and value of SRF yoga by and large [like 98%] have gained immeasurable freedom and self-transformation in their lives. This is one of the main reasons why Yoga is literally sweeping the world- and this is just the beginning.
It is all because of the results, what you may read in the Autobiography of a Yogi is only the
beginning of this wonderful life enhancing adventure. And if you've  read that book only once
you may have missed most of its valuable message. There is a lifetime of wisdom in His other writings from Self-Realization Fellowship as well- especially the SRF Lessons Course.

Reincarnation? Just how all this started who in the world knows?
Just like people now living on Aboriginal lands of the western world.
The whole process seems to have come about by the greatest of political evils and genocide.
The problem is we now live here and it is too crowded to all head back to Europe
so we must work at life where we are and make something good from now on.

Likewise here we are born into this world, and the scientific and spiritual evidence in mounting like crazy that reincarnation is the most plausible process re souls living in these bodies over and over.

So, in this modern age we are so fortunate that we now have more ways of testing
this truth and now have various great paths and methods of bringing the process to an end.
The decision is fully and clearly ours.

AS we can see from Yogananda's definition of Self-Realization -
""Self-Realization is the knowing-in body, mind and soul- that we are one with the omnipresence of God; that we do not have to pray that it come to us, that we are not merely near it at all times, but that God's omnipresence is our omnipresence ; that we are just as much a part of Him now as we ever will be. ...... All we have to do is improve our knowing."

This is what it's all about. Self-responsibility and initiative. It is not about all that other stuff of paying a priesthood or club to guarantee us a place in some heavenly realm. Promises, Promises...by those who have no power to guarantee them.

Jesus was never about intolerant exclusivism. "Only one way " Reincarnation was not from any form of paganism, It was at that time a beloved wisdom of even the Hebrews and Greeks, even though some pagans did come to believe in it. And of course today nearly half of Christians believe in it - and still growing. So much for Justinian's terrible edict passed by a kangaroo court to make it an anathema! That change was not dictated by any spiritual wisdom, not by some theological rational, it was purely for political control.
The result being that after 1500 years of blind religious programming when most church goers read the Gospels they can only see the resurrection day themes. This is the power of programming, and until you free yourself from it, you will continue to only "see through a glass darkly." as Paul said.

Few in history have made this all so clear as Yogananda. Read again and you will see that!
SRF is not perfect - and as they themselves teach so clearly -" that nothing in this world is perfect so don't expect it." But they are a great and caring organization. The Master set it up in a manner that has avoided many of the common pitfalls that plagued previous divine dispensations. Yogananda has brought to the world a great deal of spiritual understanding and the methods of how to become a Christ, how to enrich your life, and the most advanced self-transformational approaches in this modern era.
Some of India's greatest saints acclaimed Yogananda as a true Paramahansa.

ANANDA and Self-Realization Fellowship - My Story !

It was at a very youthful age that I was attracted to the study of
comparative religion. Out of this search of many years for a
better way, a clearer awareness of truth,  I was eventually directed to  the life and work of Paramahansa Yogananda, founder of the Self-Realization  Fellowship/YSS.
At that time my disposition was one of serious anti organization
and strong independence - and not consciously seeking any kind of spiritual teacher. It was an intellectual one sided quest until I found SRF/YSS. Then my life slowly came into more balance.
When, out of the vast everywhere, the great prophet Paramahansa Yogananda introduced himself to me through a book written about Him, given to me by someone very close to me. It became immediately evident that through a series of very exact influences over the years
in my life,  that it was He alone who had been directing my steps and
educating me for several years in the great quest of the Spirit.
Reading His book, although I was momentarily in sort of a state of shock, I knew both intellectually, and intuitively that Yoganandaji was my true and "living Guru" - my spiritual living teacher.

It was 1958 and I clearly felt His living presence radiating from this wonderful publication from SRF, “The Master Said,” by Paramahansa Yogananda. This  volume is now titled, “Sayings of Paramahansa Yogananda.” The book He used to introduce Himself at the right moment in my life. Then I received an even greater awakening once I read "Autobiography of a Yogi" for the first time.
I promptly took the SRF lessons course, but later momentarily hesitated re receiving Kriya Yoga, and only through a little reflection and some wise guidance from SRF Mother Center did I decide to
go for it! The best decision I ever made in my life! Eventually I experienced all the good that comes from listening to the Guru.
He created this organization, this sacred community, for a divine purpose. It was also due to the devoted work , loyalty, and saintliness  of many who serve SRF that we can all enjoy the great benefits and inspirations of their publications, personal guidance and counseling, and the many blessings that millions have known over the years through various contacts with the life and work of Yogananda through Yogananda’s only church – the Self-Realization Fellowship.

For those of you who are still searching for a spiritual path,
and salvation in God-Realization. I give my personal testimony
that if you are attracted to this Yogananda, this truly
Living Guru, through YSS/SRF He still provides all that you will ever need to reach your highest goals.
Be it greater creativity, self-empowerment, happiness, divine realization understanding and getting along harmoniously with others,
inner psychological and spiritual healing, success, or cosmic consciousness.
Between the SRF/YSS Lessons Course and other SRF/YSS publications – it is all there. And this all comes with personal counseling and guidance from SRF/YSS monastics, ministers and other staff members who are always helpful.
Nowhere did our gurus say that “after you learn such and such
you need to find another path to take you further.” That is not
the Guru/discipleship system works, and any such talk is by those who may be desperately seeking power and more followers.
The record shows that without doubt, what the master left us
works for all attuned sincere and loyal devotees.

With the right effort, loyalty, & attunement, you will find it all in the
SRF/YSS masters and teachings. These teachings supply
many important elements that have been missing from most popular religious movements for a long time.
That most advanced “science of religion” that makes all
the difference in the world, given in a balanced teaching, and the example of such divinely advanced leadership that we have seen in
SRF/YSS lineage in both India and America.
This Spiritual Legacy [a divine global dispensation] will
will surely go a long way to bringing peace, unity, and understanding
to this divided world for future millenniums.
There was a time many years later that I met J Donald Walters
on about 3 occasions. The last time, around circa 1979 I was driving through California after attending the wonderful SRF World Convocation My family and I had the opportunity to visit Ananda up near Grass Valley/ Nevada City area. We stopped there as I was
considering getting involved in some kind or spiritual community.
I must credit Mr Walters with saving me from a very serious
misdirection of my spiritual life. It wasn't anything negative he said.
But when I left Ananda after a long visit and a chat with JDW I had
the clearest feeling that this life was not for me. I felt something was
very wrong here and I could not put my finger on it.
We live and learn! It took me many more years to see that great
evils can and do occur in these communities when the leader is
too spiritually immature to be selfless advanced spiritual teacher.

Then there was those terrible court sessions that really exposed
Walters ignorance of his own sad psychological problems.
Problems that he failed to sort out even to the very end of his life.
He was truly the Judas of all of Master’s devotees, who did many
foolish and unspeakable things while struggling with the absurd obsession that he should have been the leader of all of Yogananda’s great work. [ See LA Times article from December 18, 2010 re film]
Even though Walters was very persuasive and cunning, he never had
any real spiritual depth, this especially showed up in his later years.
He writes in his book that after moving to America, at school he was
made to feel like a “worthless human being.” [ The Path]The problem
never really went away. Shortly after Sri Daya Mata’s passing, Walters had the nerve to say to someone {la Times etc] that, “SRF and Ananda could join,” if SRF made him the next president. Not on your life..
What egotism! What gall!
Even Yogananda warned Walters about the future, “Donald, you are not going to disappoint me- are you?” said the Master. And when all
is said and done, history shows Walters to be one of Yogananda’s
very great disappointments. He did much harm emotionally and
spiritually to many naive, trusting devotees.
There is an extensive documented history on all of this.
Much of what J Donald Walters wrote and Crystal Clarity wrote was
either twisted, plagiarized, and stolen from the intellectual material rights that Yogananda himself had clearly deeded solely to the Self-Realization Fellowship
He was essentially a thief, which he justified as he imagined himself
to be Yogananda’s number one boy. Such delusions are ever painful
for those who seek power long before they are ready. And I feel for all those who innocently imagined that Walters was some kind of guru. He was not even close to being anyone’s guru.
For some he was and interesting inspiration of sorts.
He had broken his monastic vows in various ways [by his own admissions] long before he was fired  from SRF/YSS, and of course continually after founding Ananda. He was fired by SRF only after extreme patience on the part of Daya Mata and the board, and the final straw was when he was deported as “persona non grata” by the Indian government. Now why would the Gov of India do that??It left a very dark mark on YSS when the vice-president creates such offences that the government of India order Walters out of the country. Can you imagine how much that set back master’s work in India for many years! This is only one of many harms by JDW against Yogananda's great cause. All because of an obsession.
You may wonder why the Self-Realization Fellowship has never detailed all the reasons why Walters was fired. [It is very rare for an organization to fire and executive in the first place] This was a courageous and difficult decision for Sri Daya Mata and the SRF board of directors. But in the long run it proved to be a divinely wisdom guided decision that save the SRF from many future scandals and harms. Many thanks to the Board of Directors! Of course Ananda members will always want to cover up and stand by their pseudo guru. They were knowingly covering up his sexual exploits for years and years. And thought nothing of all his plagiarisms and personal struggles. Covering up the sins of another is not what friends do.
It amounts to a head in the sand consciousness.
